The Next Offer · Episode 2 of 16

The Recruiter in the Inbox

The employer exists, but Daniel cannot verify the recruiter. A warning not to contact the company makes the opportunity more suspicious.

The company named in the message was real. Daniel found its official website, products, and careers page. That made the opportunity feel more believable—but it did not prove that the person contacting him worked there.

He searched the official careers page for the job title and code. Nothing matched. He also searched for the recruiter independently, but could not confirm the connection.

Daniel asked politely whether the role could be confirmed through the company’s official hiring channel.

The answer arrived almost immediately: “Do not contact the company directly. It will delay your offer.”

A legitimate hiring process might have rules about communication, but a demand not to verify the employer was not a reason to trust the sender. It was a reason to slow down.

Daniel returned to the official website and looked for contact details himself. Before he could write, a second account appeared in his inbox. It warned him not to miss his interview the next day.

Daniel had not agreed to an interview. He had not even told that account when one might take place.

He considered several explanations: a mistaken message, an automated follow-up, or an attempt to create urgency. He did not choose the most frightening explanation without evidence. He saved the message and shared no additional information.

The next step was to inspect the listing. If the role was genuine, Daniel needed to understand the work and find a way to verify it.

The description was vague, and the job code did not appear on the company’s official careers page.

Fiction. This is a work of fiction. Daniel and every person, message and event in the story are invented. It does not describe a real JoRoute user, and no real employer, recruiter or platform is involved. Job code NX-8841 is made up too.
