The Next Offer · Episode 10 of 16

Not His Whole Biography

Daniel organizes the timeline and learns that public profile information may explain part of the contact—but not all of it.

Daniel practiced a concise answer to “Tell me about yourself”: relevant strengths, one real example, and why the role made sense as a next step.

Then he arranged the suspicious messages by date. The first had arrived after he uploaded his résumé to a public job board.

The timing mattered. It did not prove that the job board had leaked anything. His profile had been public, and the sender could have found some information through ordinary search. Other explanations remained possible.

The recruiter’s screenshot showed details visible on that public profile, along with a sentence from an older résumé version. Daniel saved it, checked the privacy settings he could control, and stopped sending extra documents.

He separated his notes into three categories: confirmed, plausible, and unknown. The messages and job code were confirmed. The public profile was one plausible source of some details. The sender’s identity and the route by which the old résumé version was obtained remained unknown.

That distinction kept him from building a theory on incomplete information. He could protect himself without pretending to know more than he did.

Daniel asked the recruiter to identify the hiring manager and confirm the vacancy through the company’s official channel. The response was not a name or an official listing.

It was a countdown: “You have ten minutes, or the offer goes to someone else.”

Fiction. This is a work of fiction. Daniel and every person, message and event in the story are invented. It does not describe a real JoRoute user, and no real employer, recruiter or platform is involved. Job code NX-8841 is made up too.
