How do you decide what to test before you ship a change?

Read first: a sample answer

Fictional sample answer written by JoRoute to show the shape of a strong answer. Do not copy it: replace every detail with what is true for you.

I use a risk checklist for testing: what breaks money, data or login gets automated tests first. For example, on a refunds feature in 2023 I wrote unit tests for the amount rules and one end-to-end test with Playwright for the refund button. The end-to-end test caught a rounding error that would have refunded 1 cent too much on 12% of orders. For low-risk text changes I rely on review and a quick manual check, because quality means spending tests where failures cost most.

Use only details that are true for you. The benchmark below is fictional.
