Description
Who we are
About Stripe
Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies - from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups - use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career.
About the team
To avoid the worst effects of climate change, most climate models agree the world will need to dramatically reduce emissions and remove 5-10 billion tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere per year by 2050. The Climate team’s goal is to accelerate Stripe’s path to net zero in parallel with the world’s. We do this by reducing Stripe’s emissions and leading initiatives to increase the likelihood we build sufficient carbon removal capacity to reach global climate goals.
In 2019, we developed the first measurement of Stripe’s emissions. In 2021 we launched Stripe Climate , enabling merchants to direct a fraction of their revenue to help scale emerging carbon removal technologies. In 2022 we launched Frontier , an advance market commitment to buy $1.8B+ of permanent carbon removal by 2040. In 2024, we entered our first multi-year offtake for clean energy.
Today, Stripe’s corporate net zero program is entering a new phase. We are looking to streamline our emissions measurement, create a template for catalytic emission reductions, and champion buying removals on the path to net zero, all while meeting our expanding global ESG disclosure requirements.
What you’ll do
As Stripe’s Climate Program Manager, you will set the strategy and lead the execution and reporting for Stripe’s corporate net zero program. You’ll partner with a wide range of stakeholders within and outside of Stripe – Accounting, Finance, Legal, Procurement, Facilities, Sales, and carbon accounting and assurance providers – to refine our greenhouse gas inventory, deliver a reduction and removal roadmap that meets our climate targets, and provide inputs to global ESG disclosures.
This role requires someone with expertise in carbon accounting and reductions strategy, sharp program and process management, a track record of getting big things done fast, and excellent judgement to make the ‘right’ recommendations for Stripe’s program.
Responsibilities
• Net Zero strategy (~15%): Own and evolve Stripe’s corporate net zero strategy, including Stripe’s transition plan, priorities, budget, annual goals, emissions forecasts, removal retirements, and progress tracking. Stay current on evolving disclosure requirements, net zero guidance, and industry best practices to ensure Stripe’s program is high impact and best in class
• Emissions measurement (~30%): Build Stripe’s annual greenhouse gas inventory. Collect data inputs, evolve methodology, manage Stripe’s footprint vendors, run a rigorous and auditable process with cross-functional stakeholders, and identify opportunities to use AI to improve the process
• Emissions reporting (~30%): Serve as Stripe’s subject-matter expert to deliver inputs to ESG controllership for regulatory disclosures and to customers for RFPs
• Reduction program (~25%): Develop and manage emissions reduction initiatives across Stripe. This will include efforts like securing renewable electricity for Stripe’s scope 2 emissions, as well as supporting the creative and high-impact interventions like carbon removal or lower-emission data centers that we need to reach global net zero
Who you are
We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.
Minimum requirements
• BA or BS degree
• 5-7+ years of experience in corporate sustainability, climate strategy, carbon accounting, environmental consulting, or a related field
• Excellent oral and written communication skills – especially adept at translating complexity into clear recommendations
• A track record of generating and implementing ambitious emissions reduction initiatives
• Strong quantitative skills and expertise in emissions accounting and Greenhouse Gas Protocol
Preferred qualifications
• Has led a corporate climate program in a sector with a significant Scope 3 footprint, ideally technology or financial services
• Is a self-starter, and has a proven track record of producing measurable reductions through clean energy, cloud usage, and other supplier engagement initiatives
• Has a working knowledge of major emissions accounting and climate reporting standards and requirements (e.g., CSRD, California SB 253, GHG protocol), and experience with Watershed or similar enterprise carbon management platforms
• Has experience partnering with cross functional controllership partners to manage a greenhouse gas inventory process that meets requirements for limited or reasonable assurance
• Is an exceptionally fast learner. Enjoys (and has experience) quickly ramping on new reduction technologies and sustainability standards
