At a retail chain in 2023 the operations team planned to close three stores with falling sales. I ran a SQL analysis of two years of transactions and found that two of them were losing sales to our own new store nearby, not to weak demand. I presented the data with one chart per store. After I presented it, sales at those two stores rose by 9% within six months; the team had kept them open and moved stock instead.
