How do you make sure your work holds up in an audit?

Read first: a sample answer

Fictional sample answer written by JoRoute to show the shape of a strong answer. Do not copy it: replace every detail with what is true for you.

I make my work audit-ready as I go, not at year end. For example, every journal entry I post has its support attached, a second approver for anything over $5,000, and a short note on why. I keep a compliance checklist for month-end and sign it off each month. In our 2023 audit the auditors sampled 25 of my entries and raised no findings. When they asked about one accrual, I answered within an hour because the support was already in the file.

Use only details that are true for you. The benchmark below is fictional.
