How do you decide whether a feature you launched worked?

Read first: a sample answer

Fictional sample answer written by JoRoute to show the shape of a strong answer. Do not copy it: replace every detail with what is true for you.

I use an Amplitude dashboard to track one success metric and a target that I set before launch, because deciding afterwards invites cherry-picking, and good data and analysis needs metrics agreed in advance. For example, for a saved-search feature in 2023 the metric was the share of users returning within seven days, with a target of plus 3 points. I tracked it for a month. It reached plus 5 points, but data showed most of the gain came from one email, not the feature itself. I shared both findings, and we invested in the email.

Use only details that are true for you. The benchmark below is fictional.
