Your step-by-step plan
The same steps apply in every state. Every button opens the exact page where you act.
Step 1: Learn the five signs of a fake job first (10 minutes)
Remote customer service is a favourite disguise for scams. The FTC's signs: you are asked to pay for training or a starter kit; to deposit a check and send part back; to reship packages; pay that is far too good for little work; or a fee for a government or postal job.
Done when: You can name the five signs without looking.
Step 2: Turn your past work into customer-service proof
Employers look for communication, patience, listening and problem solving. Pick three real moments from any job, school or family life where you helped someone who was upset or confused, and write each as: what happened, what you did, what changed.
Have ready: Dates and names of past jobs or volunteering · Three real examples of helping someone
Done when: Your one-page resume has three customer-help examples.
Step 3: Practise the interview out loud
Customer service interviews often ask how you handle an upset customer. Practise the questions on this page, answering each with one real example.
Done when: You can answer each question in under two minutes.
Step 4: Apply — remote and local
Training is usually 2 to 4 weeks on the job, so employers hire without experience. Retail and insurance companies are the largest employers. Apply on each employer's own site, never through a chat app or a stranger's link.

- Find your American Job Center for local openings
Done when: You have applied to every matching opening you would take, and noted each date.
You are now waiting for employers to call or e-mail you for an interview. A real employer will never ask you to pay or to deposit a check — if one does, stop and report it.
